Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction

If you are an experienced teacher who wants to explore the field of curriculum, consider LaGrange College's Doctoral (Ed.D.) degree in Curriculum and Instruction:

• Demonstrate advanced ability to design, implement, and evaluate curriculum that promotes student learning.
• Demonstrate advanced ability to plan, implement, and evaluate instruction to facilitate student learning.
• Demonstrate advanced depth and breadth of knowledge and skills in their academic discipline and pedagogy.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the student as influenced by cognitive, physical, emotional, social, cultural, environmental, and economic factors.
• Demonstrate the ability to conduct research that contributes to the education profession.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of assessment and the ability to use multiple sources of assessment for maximizing student learning.
• Demonstrate high standards for professional practice.

Develop the tools to participate in the curriculum change process as a doctoral candidate in as few as five semesters. Any certified teacher who holds a master's degree is eligible to apply, but must complete the Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction prior to enrolling in doctoral level courses. Certified teachers who hold an education specialist degree who wish to apply for the doctoral program must hold certification in Curriculum and Instruction in order to qualify for certificate upgrade at the conclusion of the program. The Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction is a PSC approved in-field certification program.

Classes follow a hybrid model, with most class meetings conducted through a synchronous platform. On-campus seminar days are scheduled throughout the program (Saturday during Fall and Spring terms).

Seminar days for the 2024-25 cohort will be held on campus from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on the following days:

• Orientation (date TBA)
• Saturday, August 24, 2024
• Saturday, November 16, 2024
• Saturday, February 21, 2025
• Saturday, April 12, 2025

New cohorts begin each Fall, with an application deadline of May 15.

The following requirements must be met for admission into the Ed.D. program:

• Have a minimum GPA of 3.5 from all graduate coursework attempted.
• Submit a criminal background clearance and/or current public-school teaching certificate.
• Submit a currect resume/curriculum vitae
• Hold a Specialist degree from a Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC) or from a non-Georgia CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation) accredited institution.
• Has met all requirements and applied for Georgia certification in Curriculum and Instruction or has enrolled in a certification only program for Curriculum and Instruction.
• Submit the official score reports of either the Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogies Test taken within the past 5 years.
• Submit TOEFL scores if an international student who did not earn a degree from a US institution.
• Submit official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended to the Office of Admission.
• Submit a writing sample as directed by the Education Department.
• Complete an interview, which may be conducted online.
• Submit three letters of recommendations from individuals well-acquainted with the applicant’s professional potential and academic aptitude.
